Viral hepatitis is one of the leading causes of death globally. World hepatitis day is observed each year on 28 july to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, which causes inflammation of the liver that leads to severe disease and liver cancer.
This year’s theme is “hepatitis can’t wait”, conveying the urgency of efforts needed to eliminate hepatitis as a public health threat by 2030. The sustainable development goals report 2023 goal 3 targets 3.1 by 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births.
